PORT MACQUARIE NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE INC.
funded by Community Services

The Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Center Inc. premises were officially opened on 22nd October 1983 by Alderman C.C Adams M.B.E.

Purpose-built as a Community Centre by the Department of Housing and passed on to Hastings Council to administer, the building was subsequently leased to Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre.

Originally, the Centre was used to provide premises for art and
craft groups, playgroups and youth Blue Light Discos.

Over the years, the lack of many community-based services became obvious. With the Centre providing a suitable and accessible location to develop these  programs, all that was needed was a panel of people prepared to give time and manage these programs. thus a group of community spirited people who had a strong commitment to social justice agreed to join together and form the Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre Inc. Management Committe.

To this day, the PMNC Inc is still managed by a community-based committee and volunteers who donate their time and expertise to assisting in the progress
of the Centre. As community Development is our core buisness and priority, the Neighbourhood Centre continues to work with the whole of the community to ensure all programs, projects, infrastructure and facilities are readily accessible to the more disadvantaged in our community.

Over the years, PMNC has developed several services that we have either incorporated or passed on to other auspicing bodies, thus giving us the opportunity to idenrify and develop other needed programs. some of these are Neighbourhood Aid, MNC Gambling Counselling Service, Financial Counselling and ACES (Acess Community Education Services, a day program for people with an intellectual disability).
